Barbados

Caribbean beaches, warm welcomes, rum punches... and an island with far more to discover than just the sand.

Why Barbados?

Barbados has that wonderful ability to feel like a proper Caribbean escape while still being incredibly easy to enjoy.

The beaches are every bit as beautiful as you hope they’ll be, but there’s much more to the island than finding a sunbed. Colourful towns, lively beach bars, excellent restaurants, dramatic Atlantic coastline and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere make Barbados somewhere worth getting out and exploring.

The west coast is calmer and more polished, the south coast has plenty going on, while heading east reveals a completely different, wilder side of the island.

It’s one of those destinations where doing very little feels perfectly acceptable — but there’s always something worth discovering when you decide to venture out.

What we’d make time for

A day exploring the island
Get away from the resort areas and see some of Barbados properly. The scenery and atmosphere change surprisingly quickly as you travel around the island.

The west coast beaches
Calm Caribbean water, beautiful stretches of sand and some wonderful places to stop for lunch or a drink.

Bathsheba & the east coast
A complete contrast to the west. Rugged coastline, crashing Atlantic waves and one of the island’s most memorable landscapes.

Bridgetown
The historic capital is worth experiencing for a taste of everyday Barbados alongside its colonial history and waterfront.

Oistins Fish Fry
One of the island’s best-known evenings out. Fish straight from the grill, music, drinks and a lively Bajan atmosphere.

A catamaran trip
A brilliant way to see Barbados from the water, with opportunities to swim and snorkel along the way.

And yes — a rum punch or two
Barbados is the birthplace of rum. It would almost be rude not to.

Who would we recommend Barbados to?

Barbados works particularly well for couples, honeymooners and anyone wanting a Caribbean holiday that combines beautiful beaches with plenty of opportunities to explore.

It’s also a great choice if you like having restaurants, bars and things to do beyond your hotel rather than spending the entire holiday inside a resort.

You can make Barbados as relaxing or as active as you want — which is a big part of its appeal.
